Call for Scores: Solo Cello (2021)

The New Music Room (NMR), is pleased to call for scores for solo cello to be read and discussed during the NMR’s inaugural virtual event on December 19, 2021. The event aims to offer the opportunity for composers to hear their compositional ideas for solo cello come to life and to receive feedback from the cellist and a panel of composers.  

  

Eligibility:

Open to composers of any age or nationality (early-career composers are particularly encouraged to apply).

 

Submission Guidelines:

Your submitted work must be scored for solo cello only (without electronics).

 

The submission may be part of a bigger, more complete work, and should have a maximum duration of 3 minutes.

 

After the selection process, any major revisions made to your work may not be accepted, so please ensure that your work is in its final form. 

 

Your work must be submitted in the PDF format. Scanned copies of handwritten works are acceptable but they must be perfectly legible.

Selection Process:

Out of the submissions, up to 6 composers will be selected by the cellist (Yiyang Zhao) and a panel of composers.

 

Participation:

Selected composers will pay a participation fee of €20. They will receive an unmixed recording of the reading event.

 

A mandatory meeting will be held leading up to the event. 

 

Non-selected composers may be passive participants of the event depending on availability.

Date: December 19, 2021

 

Time: 13:30 (Berlin, GMT+1) | 20:30 (Kuala Lumpur, GMT+8)

 

Duration: 2 hours (approx.)

 

Each composer’s work will be presented in a 15-minute session:

  • Short introduction

  • Reading

  • Discussion
